Brief Band Member Biographies
Lars Ulrich
Lars Ulrich was born on December 26, 1963 in Gentofte, Denmark. His father(Torben Ulrich) was a renowened tennis player, so as a child Lars practiced tennis everyday. In 1973 his father took him to his first rock concert to see Deep Purple. After this he decided it was music not tennis that was his calling, he then took up drums. In the early eighties his family moved to california. Right away he placed an add in the local paper looking for other people who wanted to start an anti-glam metal band. Then Metallica was formed.
James Hetfield
James Alan Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963 in Downey, California. Feeling isolated in high school and having a hard time coping with his mothers death he turned to playing guitar. He was in a few garage bands that never took off until he answered an add in the local paper placed by Lars Ulrich. Together they formed one of the most popular rock bands ever Metallica.
Kirk Hammett
Kirk Lee Hammett was born on November 18, 1962 in San Francisco, California. As a child Hammett always admired his older brothers guitar collection which lead to playing guitar himself. In 1980 he formed the band Exodus and played with them until 1983. He then left Exodus and joined Metallica after Mustaines departure. This was before Metallicas first album "Kill 'em All". He was still taking guitar lessons from Joe Satriani, another famous guitar player.
Rob Trujillo
Roberto Agustin Miguel Santiago Trujillo Varacruz was born on October 23, 1964 and grew up in Culver, California. Trujillo was in a few local bands before joining Suicidal Tendencies in 1989. He was also a member of Ozzy Osbournes band starting in the late 1990's. Trujillo joined Metallica on February 24, 2003. He recieved one million dollars as an advance on his percentage he would get for being in the band.
